Decides to Plead Not Guilty to Malicious Mischief —
Not Taken to Northampton, As Planned
Holyoke, January 27 — Julius D. Erat of Mount Tom, charged with malicious mischief, who pleaded not guilty to the charge yesterday morning and later informed the police that he would plead guilty, today changed his mind again and on advice of his counsel, Attorney David Foley of Easthampton, pleaded not guilty and a hearing was set for Tuesday.
Assistant Marshal Timothy Haley told the court that in view of the statements made by Erat that he would plead guilty, the commonwealth was not ready with its witnesses to go to trial.
Capt. Michael Lyons of the Northampton police department, was in court ready to take Erat to that city to answer to the charge of making false statements in obtaining insurance policies, but had to go away empty handed. Erat had not obtained bail up to this evening.
Northampton Insurance Agents to Lodge More Complaints
Northampton, Jan. 27 — Julius D. Erat of Mount Tom, is is wanted by the police of this city for alleged knowingly and willfully making a false statement in applying for insurance was not arraigned in district court here today as had been expected, owing to the continuing of the case in Holyoke.
It was stated here today that two additional complaints, similar to the one already lodged against him, will be made by insurance agents of this city.
