Foreman at Paper Mill Drops Dead While Talking to Employee
Holyoke, December 12 — James Astley, 50, of 19 Charles Street, dropped dead at the Parsons division of the American Writing paper Company this morning about 11, where he was employed as foreman in the finishing department. he was in the calender room talking to one of the women employees when he suddenly fell to the floor. The police were reached by telephone and the pulmotor was brought by Patrolman Cornelius Curran and Inspector Patrick Gaughan. All efforts to revive the man were fruitless. Dr. P. E. Hurley was also summoned. Medical Examiner Frank A. Woods viewed the body and said that death was caused by an acute attack of heart disease. Mr. Astley had been in ill health since last March, but had been apparently better of late. He had been employed by the American Writing Paper Company for the last 15 years. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church and of Clan McLaren. He leaves, besides his widow, two sisters, Mrs. Paul Escott and Mrs. Jennie Stephens; five brothers, Frank of Boston, Thomas, George, Joseph, William and Harry of Holyoke, and eight children, Mrs. Alice O’Rourke, Harry, Laura, Edna, Ruth, James, Alice and Lawrence.
