The Holyoke Envelope Company has announced a reduction in wages of 10 percent.
The funeral of Miss Ellen Terry will be held today at the house of Willard Ely on Northampton Street.
Shields Court of Foresters will have an initiation of candidates Tuesday evening.
Holyoke Police Court did not take kindly to the antics of C. N. Hoque and company when they were arraigned yesterday morning. The only charge against them was for being drunk and the judge thought it worth $5 each. This was paid for by their friends from this city and they will probably avoid the city for some time. Kate Burns was fined $5 for being drunk. Michael Connors, Maurice Scanlon and Patrick Fitzgerald were each ordered to pay a fine of $10 for being drunk and all “went down.” Isaac Odelhagen paid a fine of $3 for throwing snowballs and John O’Connor and John O’Brien were arraigned for breaking and entering J. J. Dowd’s market and they will appear again Monday. L. Jodrean, who was charged with stealing a gold ring, was discharged. Eugene Turcotte was arrested yesterday morning for stealing cigars from S. F. Benoit and will be in court this morning. The theft was detected when an inventory was made and a watch kept for the thief. P. M. Swiney, Alfred Benson and J. J. Shea were arraigned for illegal liquor keeping and the cases continued to March 5 under $500 bonds.
The society of fine arts has been invited to attend a special view of the paintings in J. D. Gill’s Art exhibition March 5.
The Keating Wheel Company has had new offices fitted up in the Whitcomb building.
