High Frank Carroll died tonight at the home of his son, Charles Carroll of 564 Appleton Street. Mr. Carroll was born at Cambridge and came to Holyoke 21 years ago, going into the monument business on Forestdale Avenue. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity. Besides his son, which whom he made his home, he leaves one grandson. the funeral will be held at Hobert’s funeral parlors Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery.

Mrs. Clara B. Stewart Carroll the wife of Hugh F. Carroll of 564 Appleton Street, died suddenly this noon. Medical Examiner F. A. Woods gave the cause of death as heart disease. Mrs. Carroll was born in Wells, Maine, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Stewart and came to this city 11 years ago. She leaves one son, Charles W. Carroll of this city and a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Luzo of Gardner; three sisters, Ms. Hiram Hayes of North Berwick, Mrs. Adam Moulton of Kennebunk Beach, Maine, and Mrs. John Tibbets and a brother Charles S. Stewart, both of North Berwick, Maine. The funeral will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Dr. R. R. Wicks will officiate and burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery.

Holyoke — Charles W. Carroll of 1659 Northampton St. died Saturday night at Holyoke Hospital. He was born in Wells, Maine, son of the late Hugh F. Carroll and Clara (Stewart) Carroll and resided in this city for the last 50 years. he was employed by the Haarmann Steel Co. of Willimansett and for the last five years was a consulting engineer with offices at 98 Suffolk St., Holyoke. He was also associated with National Steel Fabricators, inc. of Newington, Conn. He was a life member of Holyoke Lodge of Elks and a member of the Engineering Society of Western Massachusetts and also of the National and Massachusetts Societies of Professional Engineers. he was a member of the Second Congregational Church and was a former member of the Holyoke Country Club. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruth A. (Moise) Carroll, a son, Charles W. Carroll, Jr., of Holyoke and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at the James P. Hobert & Sons funeral home on Tuesday at 2. Rec. Oliver K. Black will officiate. Burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 10 and Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10.

Gas Asphyxiates Mrs. C. W. Carroll
Death believed Accidental as One Stove Burner is Found to Have Failed to light from Pilot
Holyoke, March 6 — Mrs. Charles W. Carroll of 8 Dartmouth Terrace died tonight of illuminating gas poisoning, presumed to be accidental. She was discovered by her son, Charles W. Carroll Jr., of Pleasant Street, sitting beside a chair near the gas range in the kitchen. He called Dr. Thomas E. Shea and sent a call for the fire department and the department inhalator. Mrs. Carroll was near death when Dr. Shea arrived, he believed, and efforts to revive her failed.
An explosion occurred while firemen were operating the inhalator at the home and caused considerable alarm. It later developed that the firemen had turned off the gas when they reached the home and thus had extinguished a gas pilot on the oil-burning boiler. The burner presumable started pimping fuel into the boiler which is assumed to have caused the explosion of unburned oil. Damage resulting from this explosion was confine to the boiler and much of the insulation was blown off.
Charles Carroll, Jr., reported to Medical Examiner James R. Bigelow that he had talked to his mother by telephone early in the evening and again had telephoned her about 7. Failing to receive an answer, he went to the home about 7:45 and found her unconscious. Her husband, assistant treasurer of G. Haarmann & Co., arrived home while the doctor and firemen were attempting to revive her.
Mrs.. Carroll was the former Laura Royal of Westerly R.I., and besides her husband leaves an only son in this city. Dr. Bigelow, after an examination of the incident at about 10:30, reported that it was accidental. he stated that employees of the Gas and Electric Department tested the gas range and found that one burner failed to light from the automatic pilot on the stove.
The body was taken in charge by the James P. Hobert & Sons funeral home and funeral arrangements will be announced later.

The funeral of Mrs. Charles W. Carroll, Sr., who died of accidental gas poisoning in her home, 8 Dartmouth Terrace last night, will take place at the James P. Hobert & Sons funeral parlors Monday afternoon at 2. Rev. Albert J. Penner of the Second Congregational Church will officiate and burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery. Mrs. Carroll was 48 years of age. She was born in Ashaway, R.I., Laura Royal, daughter of Mrs. Delia (Riffenberg) Royal and the late William Royal. She came to Holyoke 46 years ago and has resided here since. Besides her husband, she leaves on son, Charles W. Carroll, Jr.; her mother, Mrs. Delia Royal, and one sister, Mrs. Raoul Briere, all of this city, and two nephews.
